Four Youths Arrested for Armed Robbery in Southlawn Neighborhood
It's a sad day when you have to witness two children being cuffed and taken to jail by police.
This is exactly what happened to several youths in Southlawn on Saturday.
What happened?
Amarillo Police were able to confirm that a call came in at 8:32PM on June 11, 2022. The call itself came in as a robbery in the 4400 block of S. Crockett, across from the Accelerate Church. They were also able to confirm that an 11 year-old, 12 year-old, 13 year-old and 16 year-old were booked into the High Plains Youth Center for Robbery.
They declined to release further information at that time.
According to witnesses, police had three blocks completely shutdown for the duration of the incident.
We received photos from bystanders who were present for the incident that depict two young females in handcuffs and in police custody.
How do we prevent this from happening?
I have so many questions? First of all, how did these very very young children get a hold of this alleged gun? Where are the parents?
Parents, we have to be diligent about where our kids are and what are kids are doing? We as parents have to keep a check on our kids constantly. Monitor their phones, and their social media. Keep tabs. I know we can't be everywhere all the time, but we have to start teaching our kids right from wrong and keep pounding that in their heads. If we have middle school-age kids carrying weapons and using said weapons to steal, we have a huge problem brewing in our city.
It takes a village to raise our kids as well, as parents we might not know what's going on with our kids, that's why it's important to keep in contact and know who your child is hanging out with and who their parents are and communicate.
