Amarillo Cursed Buildings – Historic Route 66, 2813 SW 6th
We have another edition of Amarillo Cursed Buildings. We started off with the building on Western with a revolving door of tenants. Today we look at a location on Historical Route 66.
The address of the cursed building is 2813 SW 6th Street. This building was originally built in 1930. This place was originally a service station. I'm sure in the heydays of Rt. 66, this place was the place to stop to get your car serviced. However, in the last 15 years, this building has seen many different faces.
Jack Mitchell Automotive - 2007
Jack Mitchell Automotive was founded in 1968 and was in business at this location in 2007
Flowers Service Center - 2012
This service center called this building home, but it looks as if they relocated shortly after this picture was taken, further down 6th St.
It wasn't long after Flowers moved out that this service station was remodeled into a restaurant and bar.
Cruisers Grill and Bar - 2017
I never got a chance to try out Cruisers, from what I hear and from what I read, it was hit or miss.
Trail Boss Ranch Cooking - 2017
I did have take out from Trail Boss one time and it was really good. It was another place in Amarillo to get calf fries if that was your thing. Their last mention on social media was August of 2017.
Li'l Abners Pub and Grub - 2018
This Rt. 66 restaurant opened on June 13, 2018. Looks like it lasted about a year.
For Lease - 2019
Venezia Italian Restaurant - 2020 - 2021
Venezia opened in 2020 during the rise of the pandemic, so unfortunately it didn't last past 2021. I heard wonderful things about the food, but unfortunately, didn't have a chance to try it out. Their last social media post was in July of 2021.
2022
It looks like a new BBQ place has moved in called 406 Cook Shack. From their Facebook page, they also run a place in Montana.
If you have a chance I would say give them a try and let's keep an Amarillo restaurant business in this building open for longer than a year.
It seems this location was great for the car service business not so much for the restaurant bar business. Hopefully, the curse on this building will be broken.
Updated December 2022- the curse continues. 406 Shack closed their doors. Now we wait for the next business to move in.
