Before you know it, summer will be over in Amarillo, Texas. Certain attractions will close, or you'll find it hard to make time to go do those last few summer activities you wanted to.
There is still enough time before the kids start back to school to squeeze in a few more summer adventures. Here are my 10 picks for things to do before the kids start back to school.
I'm a big fan of spending as much time outdoors as possible. In the Texas panhandle, we have several places to go and spend a day or a whole weekend.
Explore the Texas Panhandle’s Canyons
Palo Duro Canyon and Caprock Canyons State Parks both offer camping, hiking, and a chance to surround yourself with views you won't get in town. My kids love it when we go, and no two trips have ever been the same.
Whether it's the bison at Caprock Canyons or a cave at Palo Duro Canyon, there's plenty to enjoy.

Take the Plunge: Pools & Splashpads Around Town
One of the key signs that summer is over is pools and splashpads closing for the year. We're not far from the day when there won't be any more days spent soaking up the sun and taking a dip.

Before summer ends, sneak in a trip to the pool or let the kids spend some time at one of the splashpads in town. If you head to Thompson Park Pool, you can also take a trip to the zoo or Wonderland Amusement Park.
There's a lot to do during the summer months in Amarillo. Do as much as you can before you have to wait until next year.
