Construction woes are nothing new in Amarillo. There are several areas that are currently affected by some kind of project or another.

Water Main Replacement in North Heights

Work has begun in the North Heights neighborhood to replace water mains. The project comes with some good and some bad news.

The work being done is to replace two-inch water mains with new six-inch mains. According to the City of Amarillo website, this will improve water service and reliability in that area. That sounds like good news to me.

Minimal Traffic Impact via Alley Work

Another aspect of the project that sounds pretty good is that most of the work will be done in alleyways. Disruptions to traffic are expected to be minimal, unless you live in that area and frequently use your alley for some reason.

Dumpster Relocations and Timeline

What might bum you out a little bit, if you live in the area affected by this project, is what will happen to your dumpster. Dumpsters are going to be moved while the work is ongoing.

If possible, dumpsters will be moved to nearby vacant lots. Another option listed on the City of Amarillo website is moving dumpsters to the front of residences.

This is a pretty big project, and it is going to take a while to get it completed. The estimate for the work to be finished is five months. Of course, that all depends on whether or not the unpredictable panhandle weather will cooperate.

While the work is ongoing, keep an eye out if you're in the North Heights area while crews are replacing these water lines. Give them plenty of space to work, and slow down when you're in the area.

I love Google. It can literally answer ANYTHING you need it to answer. Whether it's right or wrong is a totally different question.

Recently, I found myself wondering about something and went to Google. So let's see what we've got. Here's the top 10 questions as asked to Google about Amarillo.

Say You're From Amarillo Without Saying You're From Amarillo

Amarillo is a pretty quirky place. We've got the Big Texan, the weird signs, and (obviously) the famed Cadillac Ranch. But more than that, there's a distinct culture of close-knit community, eccentrics, a thriving arts scene, and much more.

The point is, living in Amarillo is a unique experience. Because of that, it's really pretty easy to tell who's a native or a long-time resident. And I can prove it.

Here's a couple of ways you can say you're from Amarillo.....without saying you're from Amarillo.
