Another Insane Standoff in Amarillo, Man Arrested
It seems that standoffs in Amarillo are becoming a regular occurrence.
The latest Amarillo standoff took place on Monday, June 20th at 7:02 PM.
Potter County Deputies along with the Amarillo Police Department saw two suspects running away from a stolen pickup. One of the suspects, later identified as Johnny Allen, was carrying a handgun. Allen broke into a home on the 1900 block of North Adams.
The APD Critical Incident Response Team was then called out to the scene after the suspect refused to leave the premise. Two women were in the home at the time the suspect broke in. He would not allow the women to exit the home. Negotiators were able to make contact with the suspect and also spoke with one of the victims.
Several hours later the suspect agreed to come out of the home, but tried to steal the victim's car and flee from the garage. The victims were rescued at this time. SWAT entered the home to stop the suspect. The victims were not harmed.
Johnny Allen was arrested and booked into the Potter County Detention Center for Aggravated Assault Deadly Weapon/Public Servant, 2 counts of Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Evading Arrest.
The other suspect Jerome Snyder, who was caught before the standoff, was also booked into the Potter County Jail for evading arrest.
The APD Violent Crimes Unit is investigating this incident.
The Potter County Sheriffs and the Amarillo Police Department once again jumped into action to protect our community. Although nearby neighbors had to evacuate, the officers did this to ensure their safety during this incident.
