Does Jolly Old St. Nick Actually Scare Your Sweet Amarillo Child?
It's one of those things that as a new mom you look forward to every year. I am talking about taking your child to see Santa Clause. We can't wait to see those precious smiles as Santa asks what they want for Christmas.
You dream of the exchange. The asking for a sweet baby doll or an action figure. You can't wait to get that photo on your mantle. You love seeing all of your friend's posting their happy children with Santa. You just know you and your child will have fond memories as well. Or will they?
It doesn't matter if you head out to Westgate Mall, or visit with him during one of our Electric Light Parades, wherever you go. You just can't wait to see that picture. I had high hopes too.
How Was Your Experience With Santa?
I took my daughter out to the mall around the time she turned one. I thought this was going to be great. Until it wasn't.
This is the memory I have from that year. Yep, that was my daughter at about one and a half. I was sad. I wanted those beautiful holiday memories. Those great photos with Santa. It was a dream of mine. It did not happen for a long time.
What Did It Take Me to Finally Get a Good Photo?
Then one year. It actually happened. I was elated. I remember pleading with her. All mommy wanted was one good picture with Santa. I would even let her go and pick out a present for herself if she would just grant me this one wish.
It took her being bribed. Sometimes that is what it takes. I don't feel bad about that at all. I had to wait almost four years. She was five years old before I got my first good photo with Santa.
After that she was a pro. She finally understood that Santa wasn't scary like she thought at one year old. So moms never fear you will get that perfect Santa memory. It just might take a bit.
