For the 14th year in a row, Feeding America is holding their Hunger Action Month Campaign, and Amarillo is getting involved once again.

High Plains Food Bank has jumped in on the action to help out Amarillo and the country.

In the wake of so many people out of work due to the pandemic, the hunger issues in Amarillo and the country have gotten worse. This year is such an important year because there's more and more people that are struggling to put food on the table.

"For people facing hunger, a daily meal poses a very different type of choice. It's often an impossible decision between food or other crucial needs, such as electricity, childcare or medicine," says CEO of Feeding America Claire Babineaux-Fontenot.

Zack Wilson, the Executive Director of the High Plains Food Bank added, "The arrival of COVID-19 has changed the scope of food insecurity in the Texas Panhandle."

Just how much? According to Wilson, the average number of households facing food issues jumped a whopping 16 percent from just a year ago.

So how can YOU help? There are several ways. You can sign up to volunteer at HPFB warehouse here. If you prefer to help out in the garden, you can sign up for that here.

You can also donate financially if you so wish. High Plains Food Bank can provide 6 meals for every $1 donated. Think about that, donate $5 and you've provided 30 meals! You can donate here.

You can also visit any Whataburger through September 20 to donate $1 to the cause, and they'll hook you up with a free Whataburger!
