Hiker Rescued From Cliff in Palo Duro Canyon
Palo Duro Canyon is a great place to visit and hike some of the many amazing trails the park has to offer. However, every now and again, an occasional hiker needs to be rescued. That's what happened over the weekend.
On Saturday, November 27 at 4:30 pm the Randall County Fire Department, the Texas State Park police, along with the Canyon Fire Department responded to a call about a stranded hiker.
A woman had wandered off the trail near the Capitol Peak formation. She had become trapped on the edge of a cliff and was luckily able to get a signal on her phone and call 911.
The rescue team was able to reach her and bring her to safety.
If you are going to be hiking in Palo Duro Canyon, please obey all safety rules and stick to the trails. This story had a happy ending but it could have been worse for all those involved. No matter what your hiking level is, you always need to know your area, the trail you are hiking, have the proper shoes, clothing and water and always stay on the trails.
Lucky for this hiker, PDC has a great team assembled to quickly come to the aid of hikers who find themselves in a dangerous situation.
