It’s Official. I’m Naming This “Best Light Display In Amarillo.”

I recently took the kids out for a night on the town to look at Christmas lights. There were all of the displays you would usually expect; grandiose displays of yuletide cheer for blocks and blocks.

However, there was one that I'm going to name the best light display in Amarillo.

What Makes For A Good Light Display

For some, less is more. For others, if some is good more is better. Personally, a light display should be memorable. How it achieves that, is up to the owners of the display.

There are countless houses that look like a holiday light warehouse threw up in their front lawn. Just because you have more than your neighbor, that doesn't mean it's better.

These over-the-top collections of lights and inflatables usually aren't memorable, other than the fact that you reached for your sunglasses when you drove by.

So What Is The Best Display In Amarillo?

This one. It's simplicity is beyond compare, and while it is minimalist in its design the message it exudes is one that we are all familiar with and can identify with.

It is a beacon in the dark saying, "come all of you who are tired and over the stress of the holidays. Come tired fathers and mothers. Come weary husbands, wives, significant others. Come, and just phone-it-in and relax."

The best display in Amarillo, is this one...

An oasis in the dark. A message to all of us who are sick and tired of the wish-lists, the laundry list of things to get done, the meals to prepare, the month long schedule of where and when to be; this display may not be the one you want, but it is the one I think we all need.
