Oh, Amarillo and Your Brick Roads, What a Sight to See
Last weekend we had a couple of beautiful days. So we decided to head over to the park. We drove over to Memorial Park and enjoyed part of our day. When we were leaving I gave some directions to my daughter on where to drive next.
We used to live near Amarillo College when she was born. I wanted to show her the very first house she lived in. We got to Taylor Street. The first thing she said was how loud the road was to drive on. Really?
It was a beautiful brick road. There are still some around town. Not a lot. Of course, in the old neighborhoods like Wolflin and Bivins, you will find some. You can drive in Downtown Amarillo and run across some as well.
They look great and are a historical part of our city. Plus they are perfect because they require a heck of a lot less maintenance than our so-called smoother roads. I call that a win.
It amazes me that they have not all been ripped out and redone for quieter roads as my daughter would say. I am glad that they have not.
They make for some great photo backdrops. So as you are thinking about Senior Photos, prom photos, wedding photos, and even maternity shots I always keep our brick roads as one of my location changes.
So they may not be the smoothest ride. They don't have to be. They served their purpose and I really hope we keep as many of them as possible in Amarillo.
Those memories. Those photo opportunities. Just not the greatest place to push a baby in a stroller but we have other areas made for that.
Long live the brick roads of Amarillo.
