If you spend any time in Canyon, you have undoubtedly enjoyed businesses on the Square. They have a ton to offer. Canyon is the little town that could and does. They do pretty well.

Unfortunately not all the places that have opened up have ended up lasting. It happens everywhere, not just in Canyon. There are different reasons a place will close. Some places close due to retirement. That is not a bad thing. Sometimes it's just time for the owners to do something different with their lives.

Sometimes a place closes due to never getting up to speed. That may be because they didn't get the word out to well that they were there. Maybe they had bad reviews. I mean there are a ton of things that go into the decision to close.

In the, wait didn't they just open file Canyon did just lose a place to enjoy. One that I thought would end up doing well. I mean it was a sports bar so who doesn't like a good meal while they are enjoying a game?

So when I was scrolling through social media I was surprised to see someone ask about Benchwarmers in Canyon. I felt like they haven't really been open too long. I decided to do some searching on my own.

Their Facebook page has been taken down. They do still have a website but Google Maps was there to answer the question for me before I just took the drive. Yes, they are closed.

This location has been tough for whatever reason. It's been a few different things. Most recently The Back 40 Grill.

That red "permanently closed" was all that I needed to see. Another casualty in Canyon. One less place to eat.

The Abandoned School House Outside of Canyon, Texas

This was once the Jowell School. Built in 1901, the building was the cornerstone of the teeny tiny farming community of Jowell.

The building had been rebuilt and restored in the late '80s or 90s before vandals destroyed it in an act of arson. What remains of the Jowell School sits in a desolate part of rolling farmland between the small towns of Canyon and Happy, Texas.

Amarillo's Restaurant Closings in 2022
