Power Went Out? Don’t Worry, It’s A Planned Outage Amarillo.
One of the most frustrating things in life. The power going out.
With so many people still working from home and relying on internet, if that power goes out the day could be ruined.
You also wonder if you forgot to pay your bill on time. Come on, let's be real. We've all been there at some point.
Well today, Tuesday, February 15th there will be planned outages happening from Xcel Energy.
These outages are going to affect the south part of the city, namely the Westover Park area.
If you're in this area, you most likely got a phone call letting you know. If you ignored it or missed it, the message was telling you that planned outages could happen in your area between 2-4pm.
So what's the reason for this? Xcel mentioned that lines become overloaded just like the ones inside your house can. According to Xcel, this typically happens when we see extreme temperature swings like we have the last couple of weeks.
Those "mood swings", as I like to call them, cause us customers to use more power than usual as we flip back and forth between heat and air, or plug in things like space heaters to stay warm during those colder stretches.
With colder temperatures expected to hit the city in the next couple of days, Xcel is simply managing the lines so when we want that heat the most, we don't lose power for several hours when we want it most.
If everything goes to plan, Xcel mentioned it should affect less than 100 customers and will only last 5-10 minutes. So run out for coffee or get some errands done around that time and you won't even notice it!
