You know "Video Killed the Radio Star", well email killed the post office.  It seems that the U.S. Postal Service plans to make some drastic cuts and that includes something that could be an inconvenience to you.

The U.S. Postal Service plans on announcing this afternoon about some major cuts to keep the industry afloat.

The biggest cut will be to stop Saturday mail deliveries.  The delivery of letters and first class mail specifically.  Packages will still be delivered.

So if you are expecting that birthday card from dear Aunt Edna to come on Saturday, your luck has run out, and you'll get your $20 on Monday.  No more, if I mail this on Thursday, it should get here on Saturday.  It won't happen.

The no Saturday delivery is expected to begin on August 1, 2013.

I can only imagine how this will effect the Post Offices come Christmas season.  At least your packages will arrive on time, Christmas cards on the other hand, not so much.

They have discussed the possibility of suspending Saturday delivery before, but said they couldn't unless Congress allowed it.  So does this mean Congress has given the postal service the go ahead?
