A Huge Upgrade is Coming to Amarillo! Water Meters Going Digital
The City of Amarillo is upgrading a system that has been making people cringe for years.
The way your water usage is metered is about to change. The City of Amarillo announced their Automated Metering Infrastructure Project?
What is the Automated Metering Infrastructure?
This means that the City of Amarillo will be upgrading the the water system. It'll help residents monitor their water usage and it will help conserve water. It will also upgrade on how the citizens pay their water bills.
How with this benefit customers?
Customers will be able to see and access their water usage on a daily basis. This way that summer water bill doesn't sneak up on you because you're watering your lawn. Plus, you'll be able to catch strange water usage, i.e., a leak you may not know about in your home or business. You'll be alerted to the strange usage by an email or text.
What can customers expect?
The City of Amarillo will be upgrading over 70,000 water meters. The current meters will be replaced with a digital smart meter.
How is the City paying for this?
This project is funded by a loan from the Texas Water Development Board. This will save the city about $8 million.
When will the change take place?
The project will start this April and is expected to be completed by the spring of 2024.
