A Simple Reminder That There Are Still Good People In The World
I'm not going to get into all of the details. All I'll say to open this up is that one night recently someone said goodbye to their dog they had raised from a pup until it had reached 15 years of age.
Watching someone deal with that loss is tough.
I was asked to help them lay their pet to rest. Under the light of the moon, I started working.
I wouldn't dig alone for very long. Soon, a couple of the neighbors started helping out.
For the most part, none of us really knew each other. We all just came together to help someone in pain.
Masked up and distanced as best as we could be, we kept digging. What would have taken hours in the cold and the dark went by quickly.
My wife and I talked about the series of events once all was said and done. With tears in her eyes she simply said, "There are still good people in the world."
I've said it before, and I'll say it until my voice gives out; we are better than what we seem to be on social media and in the news.
Sex sells; and if it isn't sexy then violence and anger will do the trick. There's been enough of that going around.
Still, we're not that different from each other despite what news headlines and comment sections would have us believe. The few of us gathered that night to help someone grieve reminded me of that.
There are still good people out there, and they outnumber the ones giving the rest of us a bad name.
