Claire Osborn, a 37-year mother of 6, from Coventry, U.K. was driving her car down the road one day and started coughing.  The next thing she knew she coughed up a ugly heart shaped mass of nastiness.

That mass of nastiness turned out to be a cancerous tumor.  A tumor she didn't realize she even had.

Minutes after coughing up the tumor she went straight to her doctor's office.

According to ABC News:

“The consultant turned round to me and said, ‘It appears you have coughed up your cancer. Congratulations,’” Osborn told the Daily Mail. “I was totally flabbergasted. I couldn’t believe a coughing fit had saved my life.”

The tests revealed Osborn had metastatic adenocarcinoma – an aggressive form of cancer that likely stemmed from glandular tissue at the back of her mouth.

“We suspect the tumor grew on a stalk at the back of her mouth which is very difficult to detect,” he told the Daily Mail. “Somehow she dislodged this and the stalk snapped and she coughed up the tumor.”

How amazing is this story.   Can you imagine getting into a coughing fit and coughing up a giant tumorous mass?  I know I would have been terrified.

Osborn did have to have surgery to remove the remaining parts of the tumor.

“If I hadn’t coughed it up, the tumor would have grown and almost certainly spread to my other organs,” she told the Daily Mail. “Anyone with a persistent cough should get checked out as a precaution.”
