A Yearly Birthday Tradition in Amarillo

I know getting older is not everyone's favorite thing to do. I mean once you turn a certain age it's not as much fun. I get it. Turning older sure beats the alternative. So when you can find fun things to do you just have to grasp them.

This started five years ago. Yes, five years this has been continuing. I didn't know when I brought my massage therapist, and friend, David, a birthday card that this would happen.

My birthday is four days before David's. So when I walked in for my massage at Therapeutic Massage Techniques I handed a birthday card to David. My birthday had already passed.

The card basically says " Happy Birthday to an awesome person." Then when you open it up it reads "You should save this card. You can send it to me on my birthday." I jokingly to him to just save it for a year.

The surprise is that a guy listened. I say that jokingly. I gave him the card in 2016. Now the next year when it got close to my birthday and I went in for a massage in July. David said he had a surprise for me. He did, in fact, hold on to that card for a whole year and presented it to me.

So now it's an ongoing thing. He holds on to it for one year. I hold on to it for another one. We have been doing this for five years now. It is more of a sentimental thing than anything. We have to work to keep this going.

We can't lose it. We can't forget to sign it every year. We have to keep finding places to add signatures.  That is going to be the challenge moving forward. It's a fun way to not dread birthday's so much.
