Adios Barriers! Is Construction On I-40 Almost Done?
It's the most, wonderful time of the year!
And I'm NOT talking about the holidays.
I was coming home from work yesterday and came across the most pleasant surprise. The too tight, dangerous construction barriers along I-40 and Georgia St were GONE!
That's right, it appears that crazy project is finally nearing its glorious end.
Both sides of the highway have had the concrete barriers disappear, replaced by those good ol orange traffic cones, which makes me think they're getting ready to paint the lines and be on their way.
No more bottlenecking traffic, no more tight lanes (especially when semis roll through it) and maybe, JUST maybe we'll get the lights that illuminate the highway back.
You can't tell me that didn't freak you out either early in the morning or late at night. I-40 would be fully lit, then all of a sudden you were driving in a dark, black abyss. I can't tell you how many times I nearly lit up one of those barriers with my car.
So now that the project appears to be near completion, I question what they will close next. If that was the only stretch of I-40 under construction until you got out of town, which side streets will close next?
I know there's a lot of work going on underneath the Georgia St. bridge, and that's been getting a bit messy.
All in all, I feel like we might just be trending in the right direction and our traffic flow will get back to normal. It's about time we get back to fully functional with the cities roadways. Since I moved here, I've lived in nothing but construction drama. Maybe now I can fully explore the city without the frustration of stop and go all the time.
