By now you have probably heard some chattering about April 24th. I think the mention started on Tik Tok. It has gone all around the United States. I even had to have a talk with my daughter. I asked if she heard about the threats. It was not new information to her.

Nobody wants to take the threat of rape lightly. It's scary to see and hear people say stupid things about this threat. I don't know if this is an actual threat. I don't care if this is someone's stupid idea of a joke. It is not funny by the way. I hope they find out where this originated and deal with them harshly. It's not in any way funny.

I just told my daughter to be careful. You never know. I told her if she didn't have any plans stay home if she can. I don't want her to live in fear. I also don't want her to put herself in harms way for no reason. How can people be this stupid?

Luckily I have armed her with stuff to protect her on a normal day. On this April 24th I am going to make sure she is doubly prepared. I saw where the Amarillo Police Department addressed the rumors today on their Facebook page:

The Amarillo PD has received calls and emails about a concerning video that was posted on Tik Tok. The men who posted this video are calling for April 24th to be Sexual Assault Day. We do not know where this video originated nor if it is a hoax or not. However, we take all these types of tips very seriously.
We ask that anyone who sees suspicious behavior, report it to the police immediately. Also, we ask that all Amarillo citizens practice good personal awareness habits.
Apparently this video has gone viral all over the country, and it is being looked into. We want everyone in our community to know that we are monitoring social media for any new or continued information on this video.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness month. Please be safe and also look out for each other.
378-3038 is the non emergency number to call the police, or if it is an emergency, call 911. We also have text to 911 in Amarillo, if you are in a situation where you can’t talk.
Stay safe, Amarillo.
Even if it is just a hoax. Oh and I hope it is. Everyone be safe out there. Check on your family and friends. This is a stupid thing to have to worry about. As if we don't as a society have enough on our plates. Some idiots have to give us something else to worry about.
