Around this time of year, we see a lot of businesses making grand announcements about how they're giving employees time off for the holidays. Thanksgiving is the holiday that most mention, going back to when everyone had a chance to sit down for the holiday meal with their family. Rarely do you see announcements about Halloween.

However, one Amarillo restaurant surprisingly did just that.

After work, I decided I would stop off at what has historically been a favorite haunt of mine for a barley pop. A nice cold refreshing drink while journaling seemed like a decent way to kill a little time. I was shocked when I pulled up and the place was empty.

Yesterday, I found this sign posted on the entrance of Beef O'Brady's.

For the first time that I can recall, a business closed for Halloween.

I did what I'm sure many people would do in this situation. After I got back in my vehicle, I wondered why. After thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that the reason didn't matter. What's good about this is that people with children who probably wouldn't have had a chance to spend the night enjoying the holiday with them now had a chance to.

Should we do this kind of thing more often? Sure, not every single holiday really deserves a day off. There are some, though, that it would be nice to have a day off to celebrate other than the big two.

Imagine having all day on Valentine's Day to celebrate your significant other. If you had Halloween off, you wouldn't have to spend so much time going crazy after work trying to get the kids ready to go trick-or-treating.

Should we get more holidays off so we have more time to enjoy them with the ones we love?
