The one thing Amarillo can't have enough of is convenience stores.  Right now, there seems to be one on every corner.

Toot N Totum and Pak-A-Sak have the lead in the number of convenience stores in Amarillo.  We have even talked about them having a secret battle behind the scenes, where if there is a Pak-A-Sak rest assured there's a Toot N Totum across the street.

Amarillo has seen its share of new convenience stores.  Quik Trip opened up two new stores in the city recently.  One on east I-40 and one at I-27 and Bell.   Road Ranger is also a new place for Amarillo.

Then there's Buc-ee's, which will cause a struggle for a while, but most people aren't going to drive that far unless they are going for Beaver Nuggets or one of those bomb brisket sandwiches.  They will want to stay close to home or work for those quick runs.

Yes, Circle K is becoming a player in the convenience store game in Amarillo.  Back in the 80s they were a prominent store.

It looks like, they are trying to regain that Amarillo notoriety again.  They built a store at Farmer's Avenue and Western.  Another location is near West Plains High School, and Soncy and West Hollywood.

Not to mention, the landscape of 45th and I-27 will be changing with a new Circle K.

But, wait they are not done.  Circle K is moving to east Amarillo and are getting ready to build a new location at I-40 and Lakeside.

According to the licensing department,  the store will be 5200 sq ft with 7 fuel pumps and 3 high-speed diesel pumps.  This $6.5M project is expected to be done by early 2025.

Before long, we'll see a Circle K on every corner in Amarillo.

The Abandoned Herring Hotel in Amarillo, Texas

You may have passed it a million times while driving downtown, or you may be new to town. Either way, chances are you've seen the beautiful Herring Hotel. The beautiful aging brick tower sits unoccupied on 3rd and Pearce streets. It's a grand building that stands as a reminder of Amarillo's early days as a cattle and oil town and it tells the stories well.
