With spring here and summer just around the corner, fishing sounds amazing.  Luckily, you won't have to travel far this year.  Lake Meredith is being restocked with fish!

Over the past years if you wanted to go fishing, you had to travel a little ways because there was no good place to fish around here.  Fortunately, the massive amount of rain last year helped bring water levels up at Lake Meredith.  This gave fishing enthusiasts hope!

After careful monitoring, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Inland Fisheries Panhandle District said the lake is ready for restocking.  Because of all the trauma in the past, the recovery process is taking a while but the goal is to get the lake back to where it once was.

For the restocking process, walleye and bass have been requested.  They also determined that the catfish populations seem to be recovering well on their own.  More monitoring will have to be done before other species are added to the lake.

There is no exact number of fish or exact date on when the fish will be put in the lake, but it is going to happen.

I am not a big fisher, but my nephews are and it will be nice to have a place close by to fish.  Get your fishing poles ready!
