More Traffic? I’m Afraid So. Here’s The Latest Road Closures In Amarillo
Just when you think things couldn't get any worse from a traffic standpoint, they are. Today, TxDOT is planning on closing the I-27 northbound to I-40 westbound ramp, which of course is going to create some major issues on the side streets.
So why are they closing it? As per the TxDOT release, they're working on the guardrails and some striping that needs to be done. They're also adding some LED lights to improve visibility when driving at night. When pressed as to why it's being done, TxDOT's Public Information Officer Sonja Gross stated, "We have requirements we have to follow for safety to keep things uniform and it's regularly updated."
If you ask me, that kind of gives an explanation why some of the most random roadwork we've ever seen pops up out of nowhere. If they have guidelines that constantly change, it forces road closures they may not have been anticipating, and they probably have a deadline to get that work done.
In other roadwork news, TxDOT said they're anticipating the I-27 southbound to I-40 westbound ramp will be closed on May 5. I know, dropping a lot of bad news on ya here, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel here. The I-27 southbound to I-40 eastbound ramp has plans to open back up this week!
The entire project is supposed to last through November, and hopefully that estimate will stick. I know we're tired of the roadwork and re-routing Amarillo, but hand in there. We're getting closer to seeing it done.
