It is that glorious time of year where pumpkin is everywhere. It is in tons of recipes. It is a beautiful time of year.

Pumpkin is great for your health. So that makes this time of year even better. Unfortunately I am not talking about all those pumpkin beers, lattes and Blizzards.

I mean real pumpkin is great for you.

Pumpkin could help you lose weight. Yes it is true. Pumpkin is full of nutrients and low in calories. It is also chocked full of fiber so it helps you feel full longer.

Pumpkin is also great for your heart. It has a lot of potassium, so it can lower your blood pressure and help reduce you risk of having a stroke.

Good news is that it can also help lower your risk of getting cancer. Pumpkin as it turns out is high in carotenoids which function as antioxidants. That being said those antioxidants help to neutralize free radicals and that can help protect against some cancers.

Feel a cold coming on? Pumpkin could boost your immune system. It is loaded with those cold fighting nutrients like Vitamin C, E, folate, iron and beta-carotene.

Pumpkin is also good for your eyes. If you eat pumpkin it could help you keep your eyesight as you get older. It contains lutein and zeaxanthin which could lower your risk of macular degeneration and those pesky cataracts.

How about your cholesterol levels too. Yep, pumpkin can help with that. It is high in antioxidants and that can help with stopping that bad cholesterol and keep it from clogging your blood vessels and help you decrease your risk of heart disease.

So embrace having pumpkin this season. It is easy to cook.....and tastes really good.....plus all the health benefits. Here is to a successful pumpkin season.
