The wait is about to be over. The pool at Thompson park is about to be open again. This has been one heck of a ride. It really has. Back in 2018 the news came out that due to safety concerns the pool at Thompson Park was closing.

I don't really remember a time in my life that I couldn't swim. Oh, wait yes I can. It was that moment when I was about four years old and I was on a house boat with my family. I was jumping from side to side over the stairwell. My next memory was falling in. I didn't know how to swim. I remember gasping for air as my brother's rushed to get family to help.

Ok this is not a drill. The thoughts of 2020 are behind us. At least that is what we need to remember. Too many things were cancelled last year. Not many proms, graduations or summer camps. Luckily that was all last year. Here we are and things are so much better. Many people have been vaccinated. The idea of things being cancelled are not the same.

Nothing is more fun this time of year than swimming. Whether it is in a pool or heading out to a lake. Unfortunately we also start hearing of drownings this time of year.We need to make this 100% not a thing. Keeping kids safe by the water is totally doable and drownings are totally preventable.

When was the last time you took your dog to a swimming party. Let's face it we love to swim and so does your dog, so why not let them have a blast in the pool.

The unofficial start to summer is this weekend and what better way to kick off the season then with a new job by the water!

Swimming is always a fun time during the summer.  The Amarillo Parks and Recreation department is gearing up to close the city pools very soon.
