The Discovery Center

I miss the days when I would take my daughter to the libraries here in Amarillo. She loves to read. I also miss the days when the family would take me to the Canyon library when I was in school.

There has been a lot of talk about the eclipse that is going to be happening on April 8th. We are less than a week away and Texas is getting excited. Even though Amarillo will only get to experience about eighty percent of the eclipse it is still going to be pretty cool.

Summer is right around the corner here in Amarillo. Things are moving way too fast this year. Before you know it Spring Break will be here then Easter and it's just a downward spiral from there with school.

This school year is just flying by. It seems like the kids just went back to school from Christmas break. Before you know it Spring Break will be here. We are about a month away from that. Are you as a parent ready?

Now that the long drawn-out month of January is over we can concentrate on February. You know that month of romance? Yes, a date night is probably needed if you didn't automatically think of Valentine's Day.

When you think about what kind of stuff there is to do in Amarillo your first thought may be the nightlife. Where can you go dancing? Where can you see live music? You might wonder what kind of family fun there is in town. What can the kids do?

We remember the good ol' days. We hear people talking about them all the time. You know when things didn't cost so much. You could take the family out and have fun and it not totally break the bank.

I remember when my daughter was growing up I would hunt for fun things for us to do. I didn't want us sitting around all day long just watching TV. I mean I wanted to get her out and let her learn about the area we live.

I understand. Having the kids home for any extended time can drive even the greatest of parents a little crazy. The kids in Amarillo are out of school starting today. The Canyon kids have been out all week.

Who doesn't love to watch things explode? I mean that is part of the beauty when it comes to fireworks on the Fourth of July. We love watching that patriotic spirit light up our Panhandle skies.
