Text Scam in Amarillo – AT&T is Not Trying to Give You Free Stuff
You may be getting these texts too. I have received several over the past couple of weeks. It looks like AT&T is trying to get ahold of me. They want to give me something free. I am very skeptical about everything I receive via text messaging or emails.
We have learned we need to be that way. There are way too many scams out there. You don't want someone getting a hold of your information.
I mean this text could seem legitimate. They actually took some time on this one. They got my name right. I am an AT&T customer. Oh and my bill was recently due. I have a hard time, though, believing that this is actually AT&T wanting to give me something free for paying my bill.
I just don't see that happening. I did a Google search of the phone number that the text came from. It did not link back to AT&T. That is the first clue. They are not using correct capitalization in the text so poor grammar and punctuation and all of that is another clue. Oh, and that AT&T is sending me something for free that was my biggest clue.
They want me to click on that link in the text. Nope, not going to do it. That is when I am sure they want me to fill out all sorts of information. All my personal information. I don't want something free from AT&T bad enough to want to risk that. So I am going to do what you should do when you see something like this, delete it.
I had a friend who also posted that they got a text like this. He also knew it was a scam. His was easier to spot. I mean they got his name wrong. He just went ahead and deleted it too.
So watch out for scams from all over the place. Even the companies you actually do business with are being involved. Be safe. Delete.
