Things You Learn About Storage Units in Amarillo When Moving
April was fast and furious in my household. We worked on getting my daughter and grandaughter moved. There always seems to be a lot of moving parts. You have to make sure that all of the utilities are turned off.
You have to turn in all of your keys. Notify all of the proper people. Oh, and you have to make arrangements on the other end. Moving is such a pain in the behind. I absolutely hate it. My daughter, it seems, loves to move. I mean she does so every year.
To be fair she wouldn't have moved from her last apartment if her daughter had not been born. I mean it's hard living in a small one-bedroom with a growing family. So our big move was Saturday.
Moving Day is Always a Nightmare
Everything was ready to go. Or so I thought. As luck would have it moving day always brings some unexpected issues. We got to Amarillo after a late start. It took longer on the Dallas end. Then we had to make the drive here. The movers headed this way with the truck too.
We got in Amarillo around 8:30 pm. Not too bad but we still needed to unload at the house. Load up some more stuff from my house to go to storage and unload at storage. Shouldn't have been too bad. That was until I was asked if our storage place would still be open.
I just assumed if there are security cameras and a locked gate with an access code we could access it anytime we wanted. Turns out I would be wrong. So I started looking. My storage unit on Georgia closed at 9 pm. The movers weren't even in Amarillo by then.
Plus I wouldn't have wanted to leave my house anyway at that point. My house and storage unit are both pretty close to Texas Roadhouse. This is normally a good thing until we hear about the shooting in the parking lot from one of Faith's friends who works there. So not knowing what was going on I was ok staying put.
Until we needed to store our stuff. Then we ran into problems. I headed to the storage unit and I couldn't get into it. Then I started to panic. What was I going to do with everything in the truck still? The movers had to get back to Dallas. They had two more moves starting the next morning.
I started calling around. I was searching online. We did have a few 24-hour options. Not many of them were online rentals. Of course, there were no offices open. It was now getting close to 11 pm. I found a place on North Soncy.
I rented it online. The only unit they had was huge but I needed a place. I paid for the two months that they required. I started looking for emails from them. I started looking for the gate code. We decided to drive out there.
Of course, the directions that Google maps kept giving us had us driving on some dark and creepy road. It kept bringing us to the back of the place. It was difficult to get to the front the way they were set up. It was a mess. When we finally got there I thought that they would have directions on how to get the gate code. My other storage place did that.
No such luck. So here I am after midnight on Saturday night with two storage units. Not one of them was I able to get into. What a mess. So we punted. The drivers had to get on the road soon.
I asked if they could unload everything into my house and I would worry about it during the next few days. They said they would make it work. It was going to be a mess in my house. I would have to hire more movers to get stuff to storage.
This is when the brilliant idea came to make room in my two-car garage. I mean ok.....it would not be ideal. One of us wouldn't be able to park in it and probably me since I have the older car.
So that is what we did. We loaded everything in my garage. I have two storage units and now a garage full of boxes and stuff. Today starts my calling around to cancel and get refunds on everything else.
Have I mentioned how much I hate moving?
