Why You Should Go On The Art Walk

Amarillo is full of little surprises everywhere I turn.  I found out about the First Friday Art Walk at Sunset Galleries and curiosity got the best of me.  Out of sheer ignorance I imagined Amarillo to be little more than a cow-town with no major emphasis on the arts.  Forgive the new guy for his ignorance.  Over 100 artists from the area had their work on display.  Amarillo, you sure do know how to impress.

Of course, there were the types of things you would expect to see in galleries occupied by artists from the plains.  The insane number of paintings of cows gave me a bit of a chuckle, I’ll be honest.  Cows, oil rigs, and wide open fields were all well represented.  I found a lot of surprises too, however.

The art walk is a free event on the first Friday of every month at The Galleries at Sunset Center.
