It seems like every time you turn around these days, there's another mural going up somewhere. It makes one wonder if we've always had mural fever, or is this something that's come along in the past several years. Either way, it's a good time to be handy with paint.

Canyon Main Street now has a need for some excellent mural artists.

Canyon, Texas Is Looking To Add Murals; Needs Artists

According to a press release that went out recently, Canyon is going to be adding several murals to the city. The location of the first one has already been decided on, and now they're just needing artists to come do the work.

The mural will be the first that is a part of Canyon Main Street's new mural program.

The Location For Canyon's New Mural

The location of the mural has already been decided on by Canyon Main Street. It will be on the west wall of the Palo Duro Canyon Outfitters building, on the northeast corner of the downtown square.

That's a pretty prime location.

Fittingly enough, Canyon Main Street is asking that the mural be themed around Palo Duro Canyon. They are asking that artists put their own creative twist on the theme.

How Do You Get Involved In Painting The Mural?

If you're an artist, and you want to get in on painting this mural, I would recommend reaching out to the City of Canyon. There are some things to keep in mind.

You'll need to provide a detailed sketch of your idea and examples of previous work submitted by Friday, September 1. The winning proposal will be announced on September 29.

The criteria proposals will be judged on are:

  • Overall concept
  • Past experience with murals and public art
  • Knowledge of Canyon and the subject material
  • Projected timeline
  • Artist fee
