What Trails At Palo Duro Canyon Are Opening Ahead Of July 4th Holiday

In Amarillo and most of the Texas panhandle, we've recently seen several storms move through our area. These storms have brought incredibly high winds, hail, and at times heavy rains. The flash flooding and heavy rains have caused trails at Palo Duro Canyon to close. Palo Duro Canyon State Park has announced a partial opening of those trails, just in time for the weekend before July 4th.

Which Trails Are Open At Palo Duro Canyon State Park?

Earlier today, Palo Duro Canyon State Park announced that they are going to be partially reopening trails. This is great news as we head into the weekend before July 4th. There will be a lot of people heading to the canyon over the next several days, and it would be a major bummer if the trails were still closed.

The trails that are opening are:

• CCC
• Triassic
• Goodnight Peak

One thing to keep in mind is that these trails are being partially opened. You'll need to pay attention to signs and information when you decide to go out and hit any of these trails. Other trails, at this time, we can assume are still closed.

There are still several trails closed at Palo Duro Canyon. The latest round of closures due to rain and flash flooding came about two days ago. It's going to take a little bit of time before we see all of the trails back open and at 100 percent. Fortunately, there's still plenty to do at Palo Duro Canyon if you're the type that just loves the great outdoors.

There are still opportunities for you to get out and go camping for the weekend. You can still explore portions of the Palo Duro Canyon State Park, even if it means not hiking way out into the middle of nowhere.
