Amarillo Police Remind Us About Purse Safety
We get busy. We run in the store to get our groceries. We have the kids with us that we are keeping an eye on. They are reaching for a box of their favorite cereal. You are grabbing the oatmeal you need. Your purse where is it?
The Amarillo Police Department wants to make sure we remember not to leave it unattended in the shopping cart.
You could be setting yourself up for a missing wallet. Sometimes you won’t even notice it until you get to the cash register. You know at the time you need it the most.
Keep your purse zipped up. Keep it even buckled in the cart. Or hey even keep it on you the whole time. It takes no time to end up the victim.
According to the Amarillo Police Department on Facebook here is their warning:
If it is not one thing, it’s another. APD has received complaints about attempted wallet thefts while shopping. Reports show that a person may try to catch your attention while shopping and draw your eyes away from your purse that is in the shopping cart. While they have your attention, another person attempts to take the wallet from your purse. Most people wouldn’t even realize it’s missing until they go to check out. You should never leave your purse unattended in a shopping cart. Try your best to remember to zip or button your purse and even secure it in the provided seatbelt in the cart to keep the whole purse from being taken. We should all try our best to be aware of everything that is going on around when we are in public. Life is busy and hectic, and we can all get complacent at times, but situational awareness can save your life and your property.
So let's all be safe out there and let's not add to the number of thefts in Amarillo.
