Amarillo Voters Reject All But One Proposition On Election Day
On Tuesday, November 5, Amarillo voters headed to the polls to vote in a very tense election year. Several propositions were on the ballot locally, some of which were the center of heated debates. Yard signs and billboards decorated the city in favor of and against the propositions for weeks leading up to the vote. Here are the final unofficial results from the City of Amarillo.
Which Propositions Failed In The 2024 Election?
Results for the election won't be "official" until some point between November 8 and November 16. At the moment, what we have are the "unofficial" final results from the election. At the polls, Amarillo voters voted:
- Prop A - For 40.54%, Against 59.46%
- Prop B - For 47.57%, Against 52.43%
- Prop C - For 39.46%, Against 60.54%
- Prop D - For 49.26%, Against 50.74%
- Prop E - For 55.05%, Against 44.95%
Amarillo Voters Reject All But One Proposition On The Ballot; What Exactly Passed?
The only proposition to make it through the election was Prop E. Proposition E dealt with how we handle a vacancy on the City Council. If someone is unable to fulfill their duties, for whatever reason, the question is whether to have an election or appoint someone to fill the seat.
Amarillo voted to let someone be appointed. The actual language of the proposition mentions "fewer than 12 months remaining in office vacancy". So, with less than 12 months left of someone filling that seat, we'll just appoint someone until the next election. Not too bad.
