Sleep. It is beautiful! It really is! If you can get it! If not oh my goodness. It can be horrible.

You have tried everything. You just can't seem to get to sleep and get enough for your body and mind.

There are some natural things you can try that may be able to help you get that much needed shut-eye.

You need to get exercise. Just 30 minutes of high-intensity exercise a day can help you get to sleep at night. What if the only time you can sneak that in is during the evening? That is OK. A new study had people do their workout a few hours before bed and they were still able to fall asleep just fine.

Have you tried turning down the thermostat? Now there is no magical number that is perfect for everyone. There have been studies done and they show that people tend to sleep best between 60 and 68 degrees. Try turning down the thermostat and help your body naturally produce the sleep hormone, melatonin.

Your body needs magnesium. You can take it in pill-form or eating foods like broccoli, spinach, kale, nuts and seeds. Magnesium has calming properties that help you sleep.

When you get up in the morning make sure you get some sunlight. It helps your internal clock adjust itself. You can get back to associating sunlight with waking hours and darkness with sleep.

Try a few of these and be on your way to a better night's sleep.
