I'm Excited Because Hatch Green Chile Season is Here in Amarillo

If there is one thing I can stand behind each and every year it is the great scents of Hatch Green Chile's roasting every year. This is a great time of year. Your nasal passages can open up just by walking into a United Supermarket.

Yep weekends in August were made for this fine pepper to make it's appearance again. Here we are. If you are a fan of everything Hatch Green Chile related I am sure you mark your calendar too.

I love everything about Hatch Chile Season....and I love going to Market Street to get my fix. It is the closest United Supermarket to my home. You get to choose whether you want mild or hot. I tend to lean more toward the hot variety. I sometimes buy both, though, and mix them together. I usually buy enough to keep me well stocked until the next season

If you are ready to get your fix on you are in luck. This year's "Hatch Chile Fest" is going on again this weekend. All United Store locations will have a special roasting event from 10 am until 5 pm on both Saturday and Sundays. You can pick up a quart bag ($5), half a case ($16.99) or even a case ($19.99), if you use that much. If you don't want to get them roasted for you....they have the un-roasted available in the store too.
Not only do they roast the Chile's for you during that time....but they are all about the Hatch Green Chile. There are so many great recipes out there. United is there to provide them.

I also love walking through the store and finding all kinds of stuff with Hatch Green Chile's in them. The hot sauces, the quacamole, the meatloaf's. Oh and don't forget the cornbread. Grab some queso too.

I'm dreaming of a Hatch Green Chile all month. It is upon us. Even if you are health conscious they have options too. Like the Hatch Chile Smoked Salmon, Texas Tumbled Hatch Chile Chicken Breast, or the Fire Roasted Hatch and Jack Turkey Burgers. There really is something for everyone.

It's that most wonderful time of the year.

Check Out The Original Names For These Amarillo Streets

It's hard to imagine these well-known Amarillo streets as any other name. Try to imagine giving directions to someone while using their original names. Gets tricky, doesn't it?

The new names (that we currently know them by) came mostly from associates of Henry Luckett, who drew the first map of the area. When this took place exactly, records do not show, but the street name revamp is covered extensively in 'Old Town Amarillo' by Judge John Crudgington, published in the Plains Historical Review in 1957.
