We celebrated National Relaxation Day over the weekend but it's a great reminder that we need to take more time for ourselves. Especially the way this year has been. Don't ever think that it's not worth the time because the more relaxed you are the fuller and healthier your life will be.

Some suggestions to relax are really pretty simple. So there really is no reason not to try a couple of them especially if you have high blood pressure like I do. Some things are just adding something simple and yummy to your diet.

Go ahead and next time you are at United grab some bananas, some citrus and even some dark chocolate. The bananas contain potassium and that will help your body regulate blood pressure. That citrus will increase your Vitamin C which helps with some of the effects of stress on your body. Oh and that dark chocolate can help reduce your levels of stress hormones. So add those healthy snacks for a bit of relaxation.

Another thing you can add to your daily routine is green tea sweetened with honey. Green tea has L-theanine and that can help with the lowering of your heart rate and your blood pressure. The honey helps reducing inflammation which can be linked to depression.

Take a break and mow the lawn. I know that seems like a lot of work but the health benefits are great. First, you are getting some exercise. You are for sure getting your steps in for the moment. Did you know, though, that there is a chemical released in that freshly cut grass that makes people feel happy and relaxed? I always notice that smell whether I am the one mowing or not. Hey getting that chore done will help you in the long run too.

So take a little me time and have a healthy snack or get some lawn work done. Your body and mind will thank you for it.
